ALL WORLD: Missing Work, Grades, etc.

Updated: Jun 11, 2020

Hello World History folk,

Greetings & salutations and, as always, I hope you’re chugging along well in these last couple weeks of the school year. Here are some important reminders & announcements:

Missing Work & Teams

  • Our deadline for missing work in World History is THIS FRIDAY, JUNE 12. In order to receive points for missing work, make sure it is turned in on OR before this date.

  • When you submit work in Teams, please double check to see that Teams says an assignment is “Turned In.” As I update grades and add missing work to Skyward, I have noticed that a handful of folks have actually completed an assignment but did not click “Turn In,” which makes it harder for me to catch on my end (as it shows that a student has only “Viewed” it). It is a small thing but checking for this will ensure that work doesn’t get left out of the gradebook (and it really helps me, so thank you in advance!)

Semester 2 Grading

  • Your overall Semester 2 grade is your grade as it stands at the end of the semester OR your Baseline grade---whichever is higher. Remember that this assumes you have attempted to engage with online learning---so make sure you are consistently active & completing work in Teams.

  • Semester grades will be letter grades A - D or an Incomplete. If a student earns an Incomplete for World History, then they must make up that credit in the future, as this is a core class.

RE: Incompletes

· If you were at-risk of an Incomplete (due to either failing pre-closure & current grades OR no engagement in online learning), then you received an email notification from me last week (6/1 – 6/5). As you work to finish the year, please be in touch about how you are doing and especially if you need help to reach passing!

As we wrap things up, I want to commend you again for the determination and effort you’ve shown over the past few months in navigating school during the closure. For our course, you can expect lighter fare next week (6/15 – 6/19) as we will not have a final exam or assessment. Rather, we will conclude our course with a film activity and an exit survey, which will give you the opportunity to reflect and provide feedback on your experience this year. Stay tuned.

I also want to encourage you to continue engaging with online learning in these closing days—not only for the opportunity to improve your grade above your Baseline, and to further build up your knowledge & skills for the next course in the history sequence—but a strong end to the year will give you a greater sense of accomplishment as you take a well-deserved summer vacation.

As always, don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Cheers and talk to you soon,

~ Matzen
