WH 2 (fresh.) - Week of 5/11 - 5/15

Hi World History students,

I hope you were able to enjoy the nice weather this Mother’s Day weekend and, as always, that this finds you & yours doing well and healthy.  Here is this week’s schedule and a few reminders.

The schedule for this week (5/11 – 5/15):

TUE. (5/12) – go to the “May 11 - 15” Channel in Teams.  Today, we will do a “live” class to check in and briefly review historical writing.  A Meeting will be scheduled in Teams for the beginning of the class period (please see the LHS At-Home Learning schedule).  Remember you can watch it later if you can’t attend, as it will be recorded.  Then, you will work on the assignment “ACES Writing --- Positives and Negatives of the I.R.,” where you will analyze sources and write an evidence-based response to an historical question.  This assignment is due Fri. 5/15.

WED. (5/13) – I will have Office Hours from 10:00 – 11:00 AM on Wednesdays where I will be available for immediate email responses to questions and for video calls (the “Meet” feature within Microsoft Teams).  Please let me know if you would like to schedule a video call.  I will also do my best to be available for Office Hours on my prep periods (2nd and 5th periods on the At-Home Learning schedule sent out prior to spring break---subject to change in the future).

FRI. (5/15) – go to the “May 11 – May 15” Channel in Teams.  We will begin a new unit on the New Imperialism (empire-making in the late 19th/early 20th century).  Watch today’s video PPT file and head over to the Assignment Age of Imperialism” in Teams (the reading is a PDF file with questions in it---ignore these questions, just read the PDF).  Then, you will complete an activity in a Word doc (linked to the Assignment post).  This will be due on Tue., 5/19.

And other reminders:

- To use Microsoft Teams, go to Office.com and sign in with:

Username: school ‘email’ (username@issaquah.wednet.edu)Username should be first 4 letters of last name, first 3 letters of first name, and grad year [ex: MatzChr23]

- If you CAN'T access Office/Teams, PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP!

- MISSING WORK: if you have any missing work from before the closure, please make sure that you complete it and turn it in via email (late policy still applies).  You can find files for pre-closure work on our website (https://matzencisd.wixsite.com/worldhistoryon the “Files” page for your course.  While Remote Learning is the first priority going forward, late work can raise your Baseline grade (i.e., your grade from before the closure).  **Please refer to Principal Martin’s email about Semester 2 grading from last week.

As always, please reach out via email or, for things about Teams, leave a message in the “General” channel or on a specific post in Teams if you have any questions. Thank you for your continued hard work, flexibility, and perseverance during this challenging time!  Cheers,

- Mr. Matzen
