WH 2 (freshmen): Week of 4/6 - 4/10

Greetings, World 2 folks. Hope this finds you & yours doing well. Below you will find suggested resources to choose from in order to support your learning for this week of the closure. If you would like feedback on your writing or any work on an activity for this week, you may email it to me.

**An important note: as we head into our spring break (4/13 - 4/17), please check Skyward and your teacher websites regularly for the next phase of At Home Teaching and Learning beginning on MONDAY, APRIL 20. See Superintendent Thiele's update here for more details: https://www.issaquah.wednet.edu/family/supports/learning

1) Newsela article - "When Everything Changed: The Industrial Revolution." Please head over to our Files page (https://matzencisd.wixsite.com/worldhistory/files-for-wh-2) for the PDF of this reading.

- Suggested activity for this reading: Using ACES, write a paragraph (5 - 6 sentences) that answers the following question ---> Was the Industrial Revolution an overall positive or overall negative? Why?

An example framework for an ACES paragraph is below:

A --- answer the question directly (1 sentence)

C --- cite examples / evidence (from a source/reading/your knowledge) (1-2 sentences)

E --- explain HOW your examples / evidence support your answer (1-2 sentences)

S --- summarize or re-state your answer / what you've just tried to prove (1 sentence)

2) Crash Course European History #24 - The Industrial Revolution (video; view only) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjK7PWmRRyg

3) "The Luddites" (video, ~ 2 mins.; view only) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIIxM5v2mm4

- Things to think about as you watch: Who were the Luddites and what motivated them? How does the historical example of the Luddites relate to us today? What role does technology play in our economic (work) lives today, and should we be worried about it?

4) Textbook (available in ClassLink - https://launchpad.classlink.com/issaquah. (Once you're in, choose the orange & white app titled "Pearson EasyBridge.")
